Areas affected...Southern Appalachians

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 282...

Valid 280246Z - 280415Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 282
continues.

SUMMARY...A line of thunderstorms, some severe, will continue to
move slowly south and east into the overnight. Hail and strong/gusty
winds will be possible with the strongest thunderstorms.

DISCUSSION...A quasi-linear convective system has organized across
portions of eastern Tennessee and northwestern North Carolina. Here,
most unstable CAPE around 1000 J/kg and deep-layer shear around 50
knots will continue to support organized thunderstorms. Hail and
strong/gusty winds will be possible, especially with the strongest
thunderstorm cores. One potential mitigating factor for a more
widespread wind potential into the overnight will be the increasing
surface inhibition and decreasing low-level lapse rates owing to the
loss of daytime heating.
