...September was warm and dry in Nashville...

September 2016 ended tied with 1980 and 1936 as the 15th warmest
on record based on the National Climatic Data Center which houses
the official records for the National Weather Service. The
temperature for September averaged 76.0 degrees which is 4.5
degrees above normal. The hottest September on record was back in
1925 when the temperature averaged 81.5 degrees.

The average high was 87.9 degrees and the average low was 64.0
degrees. The hottest temperature during the month was 94 degrees
on the 15th and 25th. The coolest was 49 degrees on the 29th and
30th. September is the 8th consecutive month with above normal
temperatures. No temperature records were set or tied.

There's been 86 days this year in which the temperature reached
or exceeded 90 degrees in Nashville. This is the 2nd most ever,
surpassed only by 96 in 1954. There were 82 days in 2010 and in
1980, with 81 days in both 1952 and 1941. The latest that 90
degrees has ever been recorded in Nashville is October 10th 1980.

Rainfall totaled 1.87 inches which is 1.54 inches below normal.
The greatest rainfall during a 24 hour period was 1.33 inches on
the 17th and 18th. No rainfall records were set or tied in
September.

Rainfall since January 1st has totaled 33.49 inches which is a
little over 2 inches below normal through September.

The average wind speed was 5.2 miles an hour. The fastest gust was
50 miles an hour on the 10th.

There were 2 days with thunderstorms.

There were 13 days with fog, 1 day with dense fog.

No tornadoes have occurred in Tennessee since March of this year when
4 struck the state. February had 1 tornado. So far this year only
5 tornadoes have struck Tennessee. Through September this is the
fewest since 2007 which also had 5 tornadoes through the first 9
months.
