...May 2016 was dry across much of Middle Tennessee...

Rainfall for Nashville in May totaled 2.37 inches which is 3.13
inches below normal. This was the driest May in Nashville since
2005 when only 1.03 inches of rain fell. The driest May ever was
in 1951 when only 0.83 inch of rain was recorded in Nashville.
May 2016 continued the dry trend started in April of this year
which ended as the 5th driest April on record. Weather records in
Nashville date back to November 1870.

The greatest 24 hour rainfall in May 2016 was 1.26 inches which
fell on the 19th and 20th.

The temperature for May in Nashville averaged 0.2 degrees above
normal. The average high was 78.6 degrees and the average low was
56.8 degrees. The warmest temperature was 91 degrees on the 26th
and the coolest was 40 on the 15th. The high temperature on the
11th of May was 90 degrees tying the record for the date set back
in 1886.

The average wind speed was 6.2 miles an hour. The fastest gust was
45 miles an hour on the 4th.

There were 9 days with thunderstorms.

There were 16 days with fog...and 1 day with dense fog.

No tornadoes occurred across Tennessee in the month of May.

Rainfall in Crossville for May 2016 totaled 1.84 inches which is
3.52 inches below normal making it the 4th driest May on record.
The driest May ever was in 1962 when only 1.38 inches of rain
fell. The greatest rainfall during a 24 hour period was 0.67 inch
which fell on 2nd and 3rd.

The temperature for May in Crossville averaged 0.7 degrees above
normal. The average high was 74.2 degrees and the average low was
54.3 degrees. The warmest temperature was 84 degrees on the 30th
and 31st. The coolest was 34 degrees on the 15th.

The average wind speed for Crossville was 5.3 miles an hour. The
fastest gust was 30 miles an hour on the 4th and 7th.

Rainfall totaled 5.28 inches at Clarksville for the month of May
which is 0.32 inch below normal. The greatest rainfall during a 24
hour period was 1.23 inches on the 25th and 26th.

The average wind speed was 6.4 miles an hour. The fastest gust was
37 miles an hour on the 14th.
