...NASHVILLE GETS GREATEST 24 HOUR SNOWFALL SINCE JANUARY 1988 AS
HISTORIC SNOW STORM HITS MIDDLE TENNESSEE...

NASHVILLE MEASURED 8.0 INCHES OF SNOW ON JANUARY 22ND MAKING IT
THE GREATEST SNOWFALL IN 24 HOURS SINCE JANUARY 6TH AND 7TH 1988.
MANY AREAS NORTH AND EAST OF NASHVILLE AND IN THE UPPER CUMBERLAND
MEASURED NEARLY A FOOT OF SNOW WITH THE GREATEST AMOUNT MEASURED
BEING 15.0 INCHES IN FENTRESS COUNTY.

NASHVILLE ALSO HAD ITS SNOWIEST JANUARY SINCE 2003 WHEN 8.2 FELL.
THIS WAS THE MOST SNOW IN THE MONTH OF JANUARY SINCE 2003 WHEN 8.4
INCHES WAS MEASURED. THE SNOWIEST JANUARY ON RECORD WAS BACK IN
1948 WHEN 18.8 INCHES FELL.

THE TEMPERATURE AVERAGED 37.3 DEGREES WHICH IS 0.4 DEGREE BELOW
NORMAL. THE AVERAGE HIGH WAS 47.2 AND THE AVERAGE LOW WAS 27.4.
THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE WAS 72 DEGREES ON THE 31ST AND THE COLDEST
WAS 12 DEGREES ON THE 18TH AND 24TH. THERE WERE 24 DAYS WITH THE
DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE AT OR BELOW FREEZING. THERE WERE 3 DAYS IN
WHICH THE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS AT OR BELOW FREEZING. NO
TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE BROKEN OR TIED DURING IN JANUARY.

PRECIPITATION TOTALED 2.17 INCHES WHICH IS 1.58 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL. THE GREATEST PRECIPITATION DURING A 24 HOUR PERIOD WAS
1.16 INCHES ON THE 21ST AND 22ND (SNOW MELTED DOWN TO GET WATER
EQUIVALENT).

NO THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRED DURING JANUARY.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED WAS 8.2 MILES AN HOUR. THE FASTEST GUST WAS
40 MILES AN HOUR ON THE 31ST.

THERE WERE 11 DAYS WITH FOG...1 DAY WITH DENSE FOG.
