...WORST ICE STORM IN 20 YEARS HIT THE MID STATE IN FEBRUARY 2015...

FEBRUARY 2015 BROUGHT THE WORST ICE STORM IN TWO DECADES TO MIDDLE
TENNESSEE WITH THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU PARTICULARLY HARD HIT. POWER
OUTAGES WERE COMMON IN MANY PARTS OF THE MID STATE AS FREEZING RAIN
TURNED TO GLAZE ON POWER LINES...TREES AND ROADWAYS. TO ADD TO THE
MISERY...TEMPERATURES WERE BELOW ZERO AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS WITH
SINGLE DIGITS COMMON FROM THE 17TH THROUGH THE 20TH.

...9TH COLDEST FEBRUARY IN NASHVILLE AND THE COLDEST IN 37 YEARS...

THE TEMPERATURE AVERAGED 32.5 DEGREES FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2015
WHICH IS 9.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL MAKING IT THE COLDEST FEBRUARY SINCE
1978...WHICH STANDS AS THE COLDEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD IN NASHVILLE.
THE AVERAGE HIGH WAS 42.5 DEGREES AND THE AVERAGE LOW WAS 22.4 DEGREES.
THE RECORD LOW WAS TIED ON THE 19TH WITH 5 DEGREES...LAST SET IN 1958.
ALSO...ON THE 19TH THE HIGH WAS 20 DEGREES. THIS BROKE THE RECORD FOR
THE LOWEST DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THIS DATE...PREVIOUSLY SET IN
2006 WITH 26 DEGREES.

SNOW AND SLEET TOTALED 2.1 INCHES FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY
BRINGING THE TOTAL FOR THE WINTER SEASON OF 2014-15 IN NASHVILLE
TO 3.2 INCHES. ON THE MORNING OF THE 17TH A HALF INCH OF GLAZE
COVERED TREES AND POWER LINES ALONG WITH ROAD SURFACES AND
SIDEWALKS.

THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE AT CLARKSVILLE DURING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY
2015 WAS -8 DEGREES ON THE 19TH. CLARKSVILLE ALSO MEASURED AROUND
6 INCHES OF SNOW.

THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE AT CROSSVILLE DURING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY
2015 WAS -5 DEGREES ON THE 19TH. CROSSVILLE CAUGHT THE BRUNT OF
THE ICE STORM WITH MANY TREES DOWNED AND POWER OUTAGES DUE TO THE
WEIGHT OF THE ICE. WE HAD REPORTS OF ONE INCH ICE ACCUMULATION ON
TREES IN THE CROSSVILLE AREA.
