...NASHVILLE WAS ABOVE NORMAL IN TEMPERATURE AND WELL BELOW NORMAL
IN RAINFALL FOR THE MONTH OF MAY...

MAY ON AVERAGE IS OUR WETTEST MONTH IN NASHVILLE BUT MAY 2014
TURNED OUT TO BE THREE INCHES BELOW NORMAL IN RAINFALL. RAINFALL
FOR MAY TOTALED 2.47 INCHES WHICH IS 3.03 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THE
GREATEST RAINFALL IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD WAS 1.61 INCHES WHICH FELL
ON MAY 14TH. THIS ALSO BROKE THE DAILY RAINFALL RECORD FOR THE
DATE WHICH WAS 1.56 INCHES SET BACK IN 1976.

EVEN THOUGH NASHVILLE WAS WELL BELOW NORMAL IN RAINFALL THERE WERE AREAS
IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE THAT RECEIVED RAINFALL CLOSER TO NORMAL. BOTH
LEWISBURG AND MONTEREY RECEIVED OVER 5 INCHES OF RAIN...WHILE AREAS
AROUND LEBANON AND FRANKLIN MEASURED OVER 4 INCHES. THE DRIER AREAS
WERE ACROSS WESTERN AND PARTS OF SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE. OUTLAW
FIELD AT CLARKSVILLE MEASURED ONLY 1.50 INCHES OF RAIN DURING MAY
2014 WHICH IS OVER 4 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

MAY 2014 WAS ABOVE NORMAL IN TEMPERATURE. THE TEMPERATURE AVERAGED
70.4 DEGREES WHICH IS 2.9 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE AVERAGE HIGH
WAS 81.9 DEGREES AND THE AVERAGE LOW WAS 58.8 DEGREES. THE WARMEST
TEMPERATURE DURING THE MONTH WAS 91 DEGREES ON THE 31ST AND THE
COOLEST WAS 43 DEGREES ON THE 2ND.

THE FIRST 90 DEGREE TEMPERATURE OF 2014 CAME ON MAY 14TH. THE AVERAGE
DATE OF THE FIRST 90 DEGREE TEMPERATURE IN NASHVILLE IS MAY 29TH. THE
EARLIEST THAT 90 DEGREES HAS EVER OCCURRED WAS ON APRIL 9TH 2011...WHILE
THE LATEST FIRST 90 DEGREE TEMPERATURE TO OCCUR WAS ON JULY 5TH
1893.

THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRED ON 2 DAYS IN MAY...14TH AND 30TH.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED WAS 6.2 MILES AN HOUR. THE FASTEST WIND
GUST WAS 37 MILES AN HOUR FROM THE WEST ON THE 16TH.

FOG OCCURRED ON 6 DAYS WITH NO DAYS WITH DENSE FOG.

THE TEMPERATURE FOR CLARKSVILLE AVERAGED 68.6 DEGREES IN MAY 2014.
THIS IS 2.2 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE AVERAGE HIGH WAS 79.1 DEGREES
AND THE AVERAGE LOW WAS 58.1 DEGREES. THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE DURING
THE MONTH WAS 88 DEGREES ON THE 31ST. THE COOLEST TEMPERATURE WAS
43 DEGREES ON THE 3RD.

RAINFALL TOTALED 1.50 INCHES WHICH IS 4.10 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THE

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED WAS 6.7 MILES AN HOUR. THE FASTEST GUST WAS
ON THE 15TH FROM THE WEST AT 33 MILES AN HOUR.

THERE HAVE BEEN 10 TORNADOES IN TENNESSEE SO FAR THIS YEAR WITH 2
FATALITIES. THIS IS THE FEWEST TORNADOES TO OCCUR IN THE FIRST
FIVE MONTHS OF THE YEAR SINCE 2007 WHEN 5 OCCURRED.
