URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
807 PM CST SUN JAN 5 2014

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FOR CUMBERLAND PLATEAU...

...ARCTIC COLD FRONT MOVING ACROSS WITH STRONG WINDS AND SNOW...

.AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT WILL CONTINUE MOVING ACROSS MIDDLE TENNESSEE
THIS EVENING...WITH RAIN CHANGING BRIEFLY TO SLEET AND THEN SNOW
ALONG AND EAST OF I-65. A HALF INCH OF SNOW OR LESS IS EXPECTED
WEST OF THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU...BUT 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE
ON THE PLATEAU ESPECIALLY IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

IN ADDITION...RAIN...SLEET...AND SNOW THAT HAS FALLEN ON AREA
ROADWAYS WILL FREEZE RAPIDLY THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT AS
TEMPERATURES FALL THROUGH THE 20S AND TEENS. HAZARDOUS TRAVEL
CONDITIONS DUE TO ICY ROADS ARE EXPECTED...AND WILL CONTINUE INTO
MONDAY AS TEMPERATURES CONTINUE TO FALL INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS.

THESE UNUSUALLY COLD TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH NORTHWEST WINDS
GUSTING TO 30 TO 40 MPH AT TIMES WILL CAUSE WIND CHILLS TO DROP
WELL BELOW ZERO LATE SUNDAY NIGHT. WHERE STRONGER WINDS ARE
EXPECTED ACROSS NORTHWEST MIDDLE TENNESSEE...WIND CHILLS AS LOW AS
20 DEGREES BELOW ZERO ARE EXPECTED. THESE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND
CHILLS CAN RESULT IN FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE
NOT TAKEN. THOSE VENTURING OUTDOORS SHOULD DRESS WARMLY WITH
LAYERS OF CLOTHING AND LIMIT THEIR TIME OUTDOORS. PEOPLE WHO MUST
TRAVEL SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THE COLD CONDITIONS WITH EXTRA
CLOTHING AND BLANKETS.
