THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
  CENTRAL AND EASTERN KENTUCKY
  FAR WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA
  MIDDLE AND EASTERN TENNESSEE

* EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 300 PM
  UNTIL 1000 PM CDT.

* PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
  ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
  ISOLATED LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 1 INCH IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 75
STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 15 MILES WEST OF
CHATTANOOGA TENNESSEE TO 70 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF LONDON

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD CONTINUE TO INCREASE IN COVERAGE
AND INTENSITY THIS AFTERNOON AMIDST A VERY MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR
MASS. WHILE VERTICAL SHEAR IS SOMEWHAT MARGINAL FOR STORM
ORGANIZATION...THE DEGREE OF INSTABILITY AND HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT
WILL FOSTER INTENSE UP/DOWNDRAFTS CAPABLE OF DAMAGING WINDS AND
HAIL.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 1 INCH. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS.
A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550. MEAN STORM MOTION
