URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 608
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
250 PM CDT SUN SEP 2 2012

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

       NORTHERN ALABAMA
       CENTRAL AND EASTERN KENTUCKY
       MIDDLE AND EASTERN TENNESSEE

EFFECTIVE THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 250 PM UNTIL
1000 PM CDT.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 0.5 INCH IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND
GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 50 STATUTE
MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 35 MILES NORTHEAST OF
LEXINGTON KENTUCKY TO 30 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF MUSCLE SHOALS
ALABAMA. FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE
ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU8).

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

DISCUSSION...SHOWERS/TSTMS EXPECTED TO INCREASE IN COVERAGE/STRENGTH
THROUGH EARLY EVE ALONG NNE-SSW LOW-LVL CONFLUENCE ZONE ADVANCING
GENERALLY E ACROSS CNTRL KY AND FAR NRN MIDDLE TN...WHERE SIZABLE
BREAKS IN CLOUD COVER HAVE ALLOWED FOR MODERATE LOW-LVL
DESTABILIZATION OF VERY MOIST ENVIRONMENT. SUFFICIENT LOW-LVL
DIRECTIONAL SHEAR /ASSOCIATED WITH REMNANT CIRCULATION OF FORMER TC
ISAAC/ APPEARS PRESENT TO SUPPORT POTENTIAL FOR INTERMITTENT LOW-LVL
MESOSCYCLONES/POSSIBLE TORNADOES...IN ADDITION TO LOCALLY DMGG WIND
FROM SMALL BOWING SEGMENTS.

MORE SUBSTANTIAL DEEP SHEAR AND LOW LVL INSTABILITY WILL EXIST
FARTHER S THROUGH MIDDLE TN INTO NRN AL/NRN MS. LOW-LVL DIRECTIONAL
SHEAR AND CONVERGENCE IN THIS AREA WILL...HOWEVER...BE SOMEWHAT MORE
LIMITED RELATIVE TO POINTS NORTH. NEVERTHELESS...WITH
TIME...DEVELOPMENT OF SCTD SUPERCELLS THERE MAY POSE A RISK FOR BOTH
TORNADOES AND DMGG WIND. THIS THREAT MAY PERSIST INTO MID-LATE EVE.

AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 0.5 INCH. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE
WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO
500. MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 23025.
