THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

       EASTERN ARKANSAS
       THE MISSOURI BOOTHEEL
       NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI
       WESTERN TENNESSEE

EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 100 PM UNTIL
800 PM CDT.

HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 60
STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES SOUTH
SOUTHWEST OF GREENWOOD MISSISSIPPI TO 30 MILES NORTH OF DYERSBURG
TENNESSEE.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...STORMS ARE BEGINNING TO DEVELOP IN ADVANCE OF A NEWD
MOVING MCV OVER SRN AR...WHERE A LOW LEVEL THERMAL/MOISTURE AXIS HAS
BECOME ESTABLISHED NEAR THE MS RIVER.  THE AIR MASS IS UNSTABLE WITH
MLCAPE OF 2000-2500 J/KG...AND SUFFICIENT FLOW ALOFT AND VERTICAL
SHEAR EXISTS TO SUPPORT MULTICELL STORM ORGANIZATION.  STEEP LAPSE
RATES IN THE LOW-MID LEVELS WILL ENHANCE THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS WITH STRONGER CELLS INTO THE EARLY EVENING HOURS
AS STORMS GRADUALLY DEVELOP NWD THROUGH THE MID SOUTH REGION.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550. MEAN STORM
