THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

       EASTERN KENTUCKY
       NORTHWEST NORTH CAROLINA
       EXTREME SOUTH CENTRAL OHIO
       NORTHEAST TENNESSEE
       WESTERN VIRGINIA
       CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA

EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY MORNING AND EVENING FROM 1140 AM UNTIL
700 PM EDT.

HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 95
STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 15 MILES NORTH
NORTHWEST OF CHARLESTON WEST VIRGINIA TO 10 MILES SOUTH OF
BRISTOL TENNESSEE.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE IN BOTH COVERAGE
AND INTENSITY THIS AFTERNOON ALONG A SWD-MOVING OUTFLOW BOUNDARY IN
CENTRAL WV...AND IN ADVANCE OF A SMALL MCV OVER SE WV.  STRONG
SURFACE HEATING/DESTABILIZATION IS UNDERWAY IN ADVANCE OF THESE
STORMS...AND THE ENVIRONMENT WILL BECOME FAVORABLE FOR DAMAGING
WINDS AS THE STORMS SPREAD SWD /AND LATER MORE TO THE SW/ THROUGH
THE AFTERNOON.  STRONG INSTABILITY WILL ALSO SUPPORT A RISK FOR AT
LEAST ISOLATED LARGE HAIL WITH THE STRONGEST UPDRAFTS.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 1.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550. MEAN STORM
MOTION VECTOR 36025.
