AREAS AFFECTED...NE TN...SW VA...WRN NC

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 212157Z - 212330Z

ONGOING SMALL MESOSCALE CONVECTIVE SYSTEM HAS WEAKENED CONSIDERABLY
DURING THE PAST HOUR OR TWO...BUT AN ASSOCIATED SURFACE COLD POOL
REMAINS FAIRLY VIGOROUS AS IT ADVANCES UP THE WESTERN SLOPES OF THE
CENTRAL/SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS AT AROUND 30 KT. IT IS NOT OUT OF THE
QUESTION THAT STORMS COULD BRIEFLY FLARE UP NEAR/NORTHEAST OF THE
TRI CITIES AREA INTO THE MOUNTAINS OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA BETWEEN
NOW AND 23-00Z. HOWEVER...AS THE COLD POOL CRESTS THE HIGHER
TERRAIN AND ADVANCES TOWARD THE PIEDMONT...WHERE BOUNDARY LAYER
PARCELS ARE SUBSTANTIALLY MORE STABLE...CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY APPEARS
LIKELY TO FINALLY WEAKEN AND DISSIPATE.
