AREAS AFFECTED...AL...SERN MS...SRN MIDDLE TN

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 103...

VALID 021809Z - 021915Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 103 CONTINUES.

A NEW TORNADO WATCH WILL LIKELY BE ISSUED FOR MUCH OF AL/SERN
MS...EFFECTIVELY REPLACING PORTIONS OF WW 103 IN SRN AL/SERN MS.

BROKEN LINE OF STRONG TO SEVERE TSTMS FROM N-CNTRL MS TO FAR SERN LA
SHOULD PROGRESS EWD INTO AL AND SERN MS THIS AFTERNOON. POCKETS OF
INSOLATION DOWNSTREAM OF THIS ACTIVITY ACROSS WRN AL TO SERN MS HAVE
RESULTED IN TEMPERATURES WARMING THROUGH THE 70S TO LOWER 80S.
INTENSE DEEP-LAYER SHEAR AND STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES WILL
SUPPORT POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL. THE TORNADO
THREAT MAY BE AT LEAST INITIALLY MITIGATED ACROSS CNTRL/WRN AL BY
LOW-LEVEL DRYING INDICATED IN 15Z JAN/LIX RAOBS...WHICH HAS BEEN
REFLECTED IN RECENT SURFACE OBS /FALLING TO THE MIDDLE 50S IN PIB/.
HOWEVER...RICHER LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE ACROSS NRN AL/SRN MIDDLE TN AND
MORE BACKED LOW-LEVEL FLOW ACROSS NRN AL/SRN MIDDLE TN SHOULD RESULT
IN A GREATER TORNADIC POTENTIAL IN THIS REGION DURING THE AFTERNOON.
