AREAS AFFECTED...NE LA...CNTRL MS

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 257...

VALID 030716Z - 030815Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 257 CONTINUES.

A SEVERE THREAT WILL CONTINUE ACROSS NE LA AND CNTRL MS OVER THE
NEXT FEW HOURS. WIND DAMAGE AND HAIL ARE LIKELY WITH THE STRONGER
CELLS EMBEDDED IN THE LINE. A TORNADO IS POSSIBLE WITH BOWING
SEGMENTS AND ROTATING CELLS IN THE LINE.

LATEST SFC ANALYSIS SHOWS A 995 MB LOW OVER THE UPPER MIDWEST WITH A
PREFRONTAL TROUGH EXTENDING SWD ACROSS THE MS VALLEY. A LARGE LINEAR
MCS IS ONGOING ALONG THE PREFRONTAL TROUGH ALONG THE AXIS OF A 40 TO
50 KT LOW-LEVEL JET. THE LATEST RUC DATA SUGGESTS MODERATE
INSTABILITY REMAINS IN PLACE ACROSS THE SRN HALF OF WW 257 AND THIS
SHOULD KEEP THE LINE SUSTAINED EWD ACROSS CNTRL MS OVER THE NEXT 2
TO 4 HOURS. THE 88D-VWP IN JACKSON MS CURRENTLY SHOWS ABOUT 50 KT OF
FLOW AT 1 KM WITH PRIMARILY UNIDIRECTIONAL LOW-LEVEL WINDS
SUGGESTING A WIND DAMAGE THREAT WILL CONTINUE AS THE LINE MOVES EWD
LATE TONIGHT. THE LOW-LEVEL SHEAR WILL ALSO SUPPORT AN ISOLATED
TORNADO THREAT FOR A FEW MORE HOURS.
