...WINTER STORM POSSIBLE IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE FROM LATE FRIDAY
THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING...

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
SATURDAY MORNING...

AN UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS...
WITH SNOW FALLING ACROSS PARTS OF OKLAHOMA...AND NORTH TEXAS AT
LATE AFTERNOON...WHERE WINTER STORM WARNINGS ARE ALREADY IN PLACE.
THE SNOW WILL SPREAD EASTWARD INTO ARKANSAS TONIGHT. RAIN WILL
SPREAD NORTHWARD OVERNIGHT FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO...AND WILL
OVERSPREAD MIDDLE TENNESSEE AFTER MIDNIGHT. TEMPERATURES WILL NOT
BE COLD ENOUGH FOR SNOW IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE TONIGHT. RAIN WILL
CONTINUE THROUGH THE DAY ON FRIDAY...BUT MUCH COLDER AIR WILL SPILL
INTO THE AREA FROM THE NORTHWEST FRIDAY AFTERNOON...TRANSITIONING
THE RAIN TO SNOW LATE IN THE DAY...FIRST IN NORTHWEST MIDDLE
TENNESSEE...IN THE DOVER...CLARKSVILLE AND CAMDEN AREAS...AND
GRADUALLY SPREAD EASTWARD ACROSS ALL OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE FRIDAY
EVENING...AND CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.

CONFIDENCE IS HIGH THAT MIDDLE TENNESSEE WILL GET ACCUMULATING
SNOWFALL FRIDAY NIGHT...AND SATURDAY MORNING...HOWEVER THE EXACT
AMOUNTS REMAIN UNCERTAIN...AND WILL DEPEND ON THE EXACT TRACK OF
THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM...AS IT MOVES ACROSS SOUTHERN ALABAMA...INTO
NORTH CENTRAL GEORGIA FRIDAY...AND FRIDAY EVENING...AND THEN INTO
WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA...SATURDAY MORNING. EVEN SLIGHT CHANGES IN
THE TRACK...COULD CAUSE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN SNOWFALL AMOUNTS.
CLIMATOLOGICALLY...THE CURRENT FORECAST TRACK IS A FAVORED TRACK
FOR HEAVY SNOWFALLS IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE. AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS
THAT ACCUMULATIONS WILL RANGE FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES NEAR THE ALABAMA
BORDER...TO 5 OR 6 INCHES IN THE CLARKSVILLE AREA.

THE LAST TIME NASHVILLE MEASURED 3 INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW FROM A
SINGLE STORM WAS BACK ON FEBRUARY 9TH 2003...WHEN 4.1 INCHES FELL.

THE LAST 7 INCH SNOWFALL IN NASHVILLE OCCURRED ON JANUARY 16TH
2003.

NASHVILLE HAS MEASURED SOME HEAVY SNOWFALLS IN THE MONTH OF MARCH.
ON MARCH 19TH AND 20TH IN 1996...NASHVILLE MEASURED 9.3 INCHES OF
SNOW. THIS STILL RANKS...AS THE 3RD LARGEST SNOWFALL IN LAST 60
YEARS.

THE LARGEST SNOWFALL ON RECORD IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD...OCCURRED ON
MARCH 17TH 1892...WHEN 17.0 INCHES FELL.

ON AVERAGE...THE NASHVILLE AREA GETS ABOUT 9.0 INCHES OF SNOW
DURING A WINTER SEASON. SO FAR THIS WINTER...SNOWFALL HAS BEEN
RATHER SKIMPY...WITH ONLY 2.4 INCHES BEING MEASURED THUS FAR.
