SUBJECT:    NEW FLOOD STAGE ON THE TENNESSEE RIVER AT PERRYVILLE, TN
            EFFECTIVE JAN 23 2008

ON WEDNESDAY...JANUARY 23 2008...AT 930 AM CST...THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE /NWS/ WEATHER FORECAST OFFICE /WFO/ IN NASHVILLE TENNESSEE
OFFICIALLY CHANGED THE MINOR...MODERATE...AND MAJOR FLOOD STAGES FOR
THE TENNESSEE RIVER AT PERRYVILLE IN DECATUR COUNTY, TN. THESE
CHANGES ARE THE RESULT OF SURVEY WORK DONE BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE FOR DECATUR COUNTY AND PERRY COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TO
BETTER ASSIST THEM IN THE EVENT OF A FLOOD.

THE NWS DEFINES FLOOD STAGE AS THE RIVER LEVEL THAT BEGINS TO IMPACT
LIFE AND/OR PROPERTY...AND RIVER FLOOD WARNINGS ARE ISSUED WHEN THE
LEVEL IS FORECAST TO REACH FLOOD STAGE. FLOOD STAGE FOR THIS
LOCATION WILL BE SET TO 365 FEET. AT THIS LEVEL...THERE IS
SUBSTANTIAL LOW LAND FLOODING OF CAMPGROUNDS AND BOAT LAUNCH AREAS
THAT MAY BE A RISK TO PUBLIC SAFETY. MODERATE FLOOD STAGE WILL BE
SET TO 368 FEET...AND FLOOD WATERS MAY INUNDATE ACCESS ROADS AND
STRUCTURES NEAR THE RIVER. MAJOR FLOOD STAGE WILL BE SET TO 375
FEET...AT WHICH POINT THERE IS WIDESPREAD FLOODING OF THE TENNESSEE
RIVER AND ITS ADJACENT TRIBUTARIES. EVACUATIONS AND SIGNIFICANT
PROPERTY LOSSES CAN BE EXPECTED TO BEGIN AT THIS LEVEL.

RIVER FORECASTS FOR THE TENNESSEE RIVER AT PERRYVILLE WILL BE
PROVIDED BY THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY /TVA/ AND THE NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE WILL ISSUE WARNINGS AND STATEMENTS BASED ON THESE
FORECASTS.
