...FREDERIC BROUGHT HEAVY RAINS TO MIDDLE TENNESSEE ON THIS DATE
IN 1979...

ON THIS DATE IN 1979...NASHVILLE MEASURED 6.60 INCHES OF RAINFALL.
THIS IS THE GREATEST RAINFALL EVER RECORDED IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD AT
NASHVILLE. ON THE SAME DAY...SEPTEMBER 13TH...6.37 INCHES OF THE
RAIN FELL IN A 12 HOUR PERIOD...WHILE 5.17 INCHES FELL IN A 6 HOUR
PERIOD...ALL RECORDS. THE HEAVY RAINFALL RESULTED FROM THE
REMNANTS OF HURRICANE FREDERIC...THAT MOVED NORTHWARD AFTER
HITTING THE COAST NEAR MOBILE BAY. THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS AT
NASHVILLE ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMNANTS OF HURRICANE FREDERIC...WERE
32 MILES PER HOUR FROM THE NORTH ON SEPTEMBER 13TH...1979.
