PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1134 AM CDT SAT SEP 23 2006

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE LOWER
MISSISSIPPI...TENNESSEE AND LOWER OHIO VALLEYS THIS AFTERNOON AND
TONIGHT...

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING
WINDS AND A FEW TORNADOES OVER PARTS OF THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI...
TENNESSEE AND LOWER OHIO VALLEYS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE

       NORTHWEST ALABAMA
       NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
       EXTREME SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
       EXTREME SOUTHERN INDIANA
       WESTERN AND CENTRAL KENTUCKY
       FAR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
       NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI
       WESTERN AND MIDDLE TENNESSEE

SURROUNDING THE GREATEST RISK AREA...A LESSER RISK FOR SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS WILL EXTEND FROM SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL TEXAS TO THE
UPPER OHIO VALLEY AND SOUTHERN GREAT LAKES

A BAND OF FAST MIDDLE ATMOSPHERIC FLOW...WITH SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF
100 MPH...WILL PERSIST OVER THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY TODAY...
BEFORE MOVING NORTHEAST INTO THE GREAT LAKES BY TONIGHT. AT LOWER
LEVELS...A BROAD AREA OF WARM AND VERY HUMID AIR WILL CONTINUE TO
SPREAD NORTH ACROSS THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI AND TENNESSEE VALLEYS. A
LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS EXTENDING FROM THE LOWER OHIO VALLEY SOUTHWEST
INTO TX LATE THIS MORNING WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH EASTWARD ACROSS THE
REMAINDER OF THE OHIO...TENNESSEE AND LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEYS
THROUGH TONIGHT. GIVEN THE STRENGTH OF THE LOW AND MID LEVEL WIND
FIELDS MANY OF THESE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND
GUSTS. RELATIVELY STRONG LOW LEVEL WIND FIELDS WILL ALSO SUPPORT THE
POTENTIAL FOR TORNADOES ACROSS THE MODERATE RISK AREA.

THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER
SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA WEATHER
RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER TODAY.
