...SNOW ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE CHRISTMAS NIGHT INTO TUESDAY...

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS DEVELOPING OFF THE TEXAS COAST THIS MORNING
AND WILL MOVE NORTHEAST INTO SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA BY EARLY THIS
EVENING. AS A RESULT...RAIN WILL SPREAD NORTHWARD FROM THE GULF
REGION...REACHING SOUTHERN AREAS OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE BY EARLY THIS
EVENING...AND OVER SPREADING THE MID STATE TONIGHT. TEMPERATURES WILL
BE IN THE 40S CHRISTMAS DAY...WITH PERIODS OF RAIN AS THE LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH THE MID STATE. BY CHRISTMAS EVENING...
MIDDLE TENNESSEE WILL BE ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM...AND THIS WILL ALLOW FOR THE INTRUSION OF COLDER AIR. THE
RAIN IS EXPECTED TO MIX WITH...OR CHANGE TO SNOW AROUND MIDNIGHT...
CHRISTMAS NIGHT...IN WESTERN AREAS...SUCH AS CLARKSVILLE...LINDEN AND
WAYNESBORO...AND THEN IN CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE MID STATE AFTER
MIDNIGHT...INCLUDING NASHVILLE...LEWISBURG AND COLUMBIA...AND ON THE
CUMBERLAND PLATEAU...INCLUDING CROSSVILLE...JAMESTOWN AND COOKEVILLE
AROUND DAYBREAK TUESDAY. THE AIR MASS WILL BE COLD ENOUGH ON TUESDAY
THAT THE PRECIPITATION WILL BE IN THE FORM...OF ALL SNOW. TOTAL SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM A DUSTING TO A HALF INCH IN
FAR WESTERN AREAS...TO ABOUT 1 INCH IN THE CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE
MID STATE...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNT POSSIBLE ALONG THE CUMBERLAND
PLATEAU. THE SNOW SHOULD TAPER OFF BY TUESDAY EVENING IN ALL AREAS.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY TRAVELERS ARE ADVISED TO STAY TUNED TO THE LATEST
WEATHER UPDATES TO THIS POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM.
